The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a new federal initiative to develop multi-state interstate highway corridors, including truck-only lanes, to decrease congestion and prevent truck accidents along six interstate routes, including Interstate 95, from Florida to the Canadian border.  Interstate 70, terminating at Baltimore, will also receive federal funding for improvements. 

Proposals for funding from 38 public and private sector entities were reviewed, and six were recently awarded funding in various amounts, according to proposed costs and benefits.  The I-95 improvement project was awarded $21.8 million in federal funds, and the I-70 project was awarded $5 million in funding.  More information regarding the projects can be found on the agency's Corridors of the Future Fact Sheet.
