Great American Smokeout November 15th
Today is the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout. On the third Thursday of each November, this year on November 15, 2007, the American Cancer Society encourages smokers to either smoke less or quit entirely with the support of the national campaign.
The American Cancer Society provides resources explaining the health benefits to quitting smoking, both for the health of the smoker and the individuals inhaling the smoker's secondhand smoke. Regan Zambri & Long has previously discussed the risks of smoking including increased risks of developing breast cancer and the risks of secondhand smoke.
The American Cancer Society also provides a guide to quitting smoking explaining why quitting is so difficult and how smokers can develop a plan to quit and get support from family, friends, and other resources.
Individuals who are ready to improve their health and quit smoking can contact the American Cancer Society for help at 1-800-ACS-2345. The American Cancer Society web site also permits individuals to input their contact information to receive a supportive call from the Quitline.
